Our favourite camping grounds on the NSW North coast
Our team love everything camping and 4x4 adventuring and because our head office is based on the Gold Coast we pride ourselves on being experts in the best places to head for a bit of outdoor therapy. So we have voted and our top 2 locations we head on the NSW North Coast are Woody Head and Shelly Head.
We'd love to hear your thoughts on our top picks.
Woody Head
One of our top picks for a camping trip in Northern NSW is the Woody Head Campground in Bundjalung National Park.
Woody Head campground is one of the best places for a weekend getaway. Its has all the comforts of the top notch camp sites, perfectly located right on the beach. Being a campground this spot suits all levels of adventurer, with the option to bring your caravan, camper trailer or tent. Power or non-powered sites, clean hot bathrooms, barbecues and kiosks. If you’re planning on camping here, we would recommend our Yakima Car Awning to keep your out of the harsh sun.
This spot great for fishing & surfing is don’t forget your fishing rod and board.
Location: 92 Woody Head Road, Woody Head, NSW, 2466
Shelly Head
Our other top pick is for the adventurous camper, Shelley Head campground in Yuraygir National Park. This is a bit of a remote location but the hike in provides the perfect mix of adventure and privacy. This spot is perfect for the fishing enthusiasts, and lovers of swiming and exploring. This location is near Shelley Caves and Little Shelley Beach. Make the most of the park's countless beaches and waterways. Swim, surf or snorkel – cooling sea breezes provide welcome relief in hot weather.
This is notNo bookings required, just walk in and claim your spot. For this location we recommend camping gear thats lightweight & reliable which is why we recommend our easy to erect Campboss Double Swag Tent and the Campboss Camp Cooking Bundle, perfect for open fire cooking.
Shelley Head campground is within Yuraygir National Park. To get there via Lake Arragan campground:
- Take Pacific Highway north from Grafton for about 35km
- Continue for about 18km and then follow signs for Lake Arragan or Red Cliff campgrounds
- Shelley Head campground is a 7km walk north from Lake Arragan
